In China, where the game originated, it is bitterly opposed by the Government and the moral element, ele-ment, and is only played by the criminal crim-inal element. Mah Jong in China is almost always al-ways played for money. The stakes are frequently high and as much as $1,000,000 has been lost and won in a night. . It is one of the oldest of China's gambling games. It was originally played with cards, but about half a century ago it took its present form. So popular has it become in this country, the irnpoi-tations from China have become so great, it is said to have exhausted the bone supply of j China, and a shipload of knucklebones knuckle-bones was sent from the Chicago Stock Yards to China to enable that country to fill its orders.
