Show WEED YOUR GARDENS Keep your garden free of weeds is the advice being sent out just now by Emil Hansen, expert gardner of the Utah Agricultural CCollege. Every weed is an enemy, and must be treated treat-ed as such, say Mr. Hansen. By far the most valuable time to weed is early in the season, although a constant con-stant campaign must be waged until the time for harvest. Select a bright, sunshiny day for weeding, because the direct rays of the sun will kill those weeds that have been but partially par-tially uprooted. Many weeds live though even a vigorous weeding on cool, cloudy days. The hoe is an able assistant in cleaning out a garden, as is also'the -veeder, says Mr. Hansen, but it is necessary to do much hand pulling if a good weeding is to be given. Nothing Noth-ing can take the place of the thumb and fingers in cleaning a garden of weeds. A thorough weeding is also valuable because it gives your garden a good cultivation. |
