Show Gunnison Babies Declared The Best Gunnison Valley babies, famed fam-ed for health, beauty and sturdi-ness, sturdi-ness, walked off with the honors at the Sanpete county fair at Manti last Friday afternoon. The two first prizes were won and considering the fact that some 70 mothers were competing for honors, hon-ors, speaks volumes for the babies ba-bies of this particular section. -Waynard N. Jensen, the eight-months-old baby boy of Mr. and Mrs. Edd. Jensen of this city, was the winner in the contest for baby ba-by boys. Waynard rounded out with 96 per cent to his credit and ranked ahead of his competitors. Other- baby boys from this city, however, made splendid showings show-ings and, while not receiving any blue ribbons, were highly praised by the official judges. Deon Goates, ten-months-old baby girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Goates of Centerfield, won the prize for baby girls. Deon was within one percent of being a perfect baby girl. She scored 99 per cent and won praise for her beauty, els well as the points of health and regulations. regula-tions. The parents of both the boy and girl are naturally proud and Gunnison feels elated over the fact that "prize winners" are raised here. Not alone did the valley capture cap-ture first prizes in the baby contest, con-test, but honors fell to members of the high school agricultural club, and erceptional honors were bestowed considering the amount exhibited. In the poultry poul-try exhibit Nolan Edwards won a second prize on a pen of pullets; pul-lets; Arnold Larson second on individual pullet, and I. L. Henrie Hen-rie won second place with old hen exhibit. The judges, while not able to award first places, commended the boys on their efforts, ef-forts, and encouraged them to follow up their1, work and that success would crown them lat :r. In, the swine exhibit Newell Childs made a sweepstake with his Chester White hogs. New-ell's New-ell's display was extraordinary good and his exhibit attracted much attention. Bert Jensen of Westview captured first place for I his display of Dicklow wheat and carried off the second prize for Idaho Rural potatoes. |
