Show September Named For County Fair At a meeting of the executive board of the County Fair held last Thursday night the dates of Sept. 17-18-19 were selected as the dates for the 1924 fair, says the Messenger. The dates are approximately one week later than has been the custom during recent years. The later date was selected in the interest of the fruit growers and producers whose crons will make a .better showing at that time. The board also had up for consideration consider-ation the advisability of purchasing the old opera house. Mr. Westen-skow, Westen-skow, the present owner has made an offer to place the building on the fair grounds intact as it now stands minus the stage part which is of no particular value to the Fair Association Associa-tion and turn it over to the Fair for' the sum of $2,000. The board looked with favor on Mr. Westenskow's offer, provided arrangements can be made with the bank for the increased indebtedness of the association, and also pending a few minor points in the deal with Mr. Westenskow which have not been determined. The building on the grounds will settle satisfactorily once and for all the annuad complaint of patrons of having the fair divided. It is also pointed out that the interest on $2000 at 7 per cent is $140 per year, $10 less than the rental price of the building during recent years for the few days of the fair. During other festivities on the fair grounds aside from fairt ime. the building could be put to good use. However, there is bound to be some expense in the upkeep up-keep of the building and some fire insurance to maintain. These items, it is thought, would be offset by the use of the building for other purposes. |
