Show ENFORCE THE LAW. Enforce all laws or repeal all dead letter statutes. This was the substance of a resolution reso-lution passed by the editors of the state at their recent convention. It was pointed out that many of the laws on the statute books of the state were not being enforced and were not enforceable in the face of public opinion. The fact that they are laughed at breeds "contempt for many other laws which should be enforced but' are not because the officers do not have strong enough public backing to enforce them. If an effort should be made to strictly enforce the laws which are most obnoxious, ob-noxious, it would create such a storm of protest that repeal would be compelled. com-pelled. A good example of the notorious anti-cigaret law was seen in Price last Friday evening. Price is no worse in this regard than all other Utah towns and the scene might be found in almost any city in the state at public gatherings of men. Following Follow-ing the serving at the high school gym of the banquet to our Salt Lake visitors at least a third of the crowd lit cigarets. There were business men of two cities, professional men, manufacturers manufac-turers and men of all classes. There was no intent to be defying the law but just a desire for an after-dinner smoke. Had an officer tried to arrest ar-rest all the cigaret smokers he would have had a merry time. Every Ev-ery man who smoked a cigaret is a law-abiding citizen but one who does not belive that fool laws deserve respect. If this law cannot be enforced, en-forced, why clutter the statute books with it? The only business of the next legislature leg-islature should be the passing of the appropriations bill and the cleaning up of the state laws so that a lot of nonsensense can be thrown into the garbage pail.
