Show A DUTY WE AAj owe. How many children of other people peo-ple do we meet in the run of a day? How many of these children do you pass without any form of greeting? greet-ing? How many of thom are completely ignored? We owe a duty to every child that we meet. That duty is to let the child know that it is among its friends and its protectors, that the mere presence of an adnlt in its vicinity vi-cinity is a guarantee that it is safe from all harm. Children should bo taught to respect, re-spect, their elders but never to fear them. When fear enters the heart of a child respect and confidence begin to disappear. That is one of the first steps toward waywardness, and the others are easy to take. A kindly word of greeting to the child we meet costs us nothing. Its effect is seen not only in the brightness bright-ness of the little countenance, but also in the sunshine that permeates its soul in the after years. Smile when you meet them. They will soon be smiling in return. |
