Show GEN. RICHARD W. YOUNG DEAD End Comes Following Operation for Appendicitis. Salt Lake City. Richard W. Young, brigadier general during the world war, attorney, writer, orator and active ac-tive in civil, social and business life of Utah, died at the Latter-day Saints hospital at 7:20 o'clock Sunday night following an operation for appendicitis appendici-tis Sunday. He was 61 years of age. General Young was born in Salt Lake April 19, 1853. He began his military -life after being graduated from the United States military academy at West Point, and was active in the Philippines during the Spanish-American war, when he served with the rank of major. After the close of that war he retired from military life and returned to Salt Lake, where he began the practice of law. When war was declared against Germany General Young was made colonel col-onel commanding Utah's regiment of field artillery, which was made up of two squadrons of cavalry. |
