Show still many of our good citizens vho, : without any thought of doing an in-j ; justice to the National colors, arej j making use of the Flag in a manner j contrary to nationally prescribed' I regulations and etiquette. j The flag, when used in a parade.1 should be allowed to fly freely from ! j the front of the vehicle. This ap-j ap-j plies, of course, to large, standard-i standard-i sized flags. It should never be j draped about or be made to cover a car or float. Use bunting for those I purposes. j When the flag is hung on a wall or otherwise it should always be allowed al-lowed to hang freely with the blue I field to the left and not be gathered up or shaped up into any fantastic designs. AVhcn the National colors pass in a parade it should be properly respected re-spected by taking off the hat if you are in civilian dress and is to bo saluted sa-luted by men in the U. S. uniform. This should be done whether you are afoot or in an open car. If we citizens of these United States will not respect our own flag, to whom shall we look to do it? This is not to criticise but to inform. in-form. The American Legion. . Putting over the fourth annual coi-ventiori coi-ventiori of the American Legion, De- able long since. To "tell the whole world" about the Legion convention is a work assigned to R. L. Olsen, Logan Lo-gan newspaperman, and "Ray's typewriter" type-writer" is now busy turning out" "copy" for the press. Kirke M. Decker, Deck-er, the wide-awake adjutant , of the state, checks up on each committee and of each sub-committee, and records re-cords their every act in his big book, being secretary of the general committee com-mittee and every sub-committee. So that's the line-up that is charged with the. duty of making the Fourth Annual Convention of the American Legion, Department of Utah, a great success and each knows it, so he is already working. partment of Utah, which will be held in Logan, September 21st, 22nd and 23rd, as the biggest convention of the state this year is a task which has been assigned by the department officers to Logan Post No. 7 and this post has organized very thoroughly to do it. There is no detail incident to conventions that has not or will not have received the greatest attention. atten-tion. One hundred and fifty legionnaires legion-naires of Logan are going to show the Utah Legion members and their Auxiliary that Logan knows how and every member of the Legion and his family and friends are invited to see how' it is done. To put over the convention requires committees properly guided and for this duty Wm. Wesley Anderson has been selected by Department Commander Com-mander B. W.' Black. "Wes" is general gen-eral chairman the man who doesn't work himself but sees .that his committees com-mittees work. Entertainment is the biggest item in connection with the convention outside the business of the convention itself and to supervise entertainment Harold " Happy '' Brangham has been chosen. "Happy" is a past commander of the Logan post and knows how. He doesn't dance or frolic himself so that mea"s that others will get a chance to do it. In order to put on entertainments and properly put over the entire convention, con-vention, money, and lots of it, is necessary, ne-cessary, so L. Boyd Hatch, who inherited in-herited an appreciation for mercenary mercen-ary things being the son of a banker, has been selected to head the finance The three days of the . convention in Logan are going to be crowded full of activities. When stern business does not occupy the minds of the Legionnaires, Le-gionnaires, fickle fun will. That's already al-ready been decided upon by the committee. com-mittee. The biggest fun-producing event will be the grand outing into ' Logan Canyon, twelve miles up, where a big feed, games and stunts of a unique nature in the vigorous, cool mountain air will take years off the age of each one who takes part. All Legionnaires who have performed "Distinguished Service" for the Legion Le-gion will get a chance to be initiated into the mysteries of the Legion's great inner circle, La Societe des 40 Homines et 8 Cheveaux, during one of the nights of the convention. The degree team of Viot, ure Locale No. 286 of Cache county will put on the initiation. Both those who like to dance and those who do not will have to trip to some real peppery and jazzy music at least one night of the three in one of Utah's best dance halls. Strict censorship and immature plans prevent mention of other little things that are going to add zest to the convention. con-vention. Hanford MacNider, national commander com-mander of the American Legion, has I given his promise that he will make every effort to attend the Utah Department De-partment convention in Logan. There will be ' approximately 300 delegates from Utah posts at the convention con-vention besides post officers who have been invited to attend. The Auxiliary is also to convene during the three committee and raise more than a few hundred dollars. Adequate housing of the delegates and Legion visitors during the convention and providing a real "Logan reception" for them is by no means the smallest job so Judge L. E. Nelson was picked for chairman chair-man of the Reception and Housing committee. "Lou" has all his legal powers already mustered in thinking out his problems which means they will be solved. Getting railroad rates for delegates who are not going to drive in automobiles and providing automobile transportation in Logan and into Logan Canyon is a job that Henry B. Johnson has to put over 1 and "Hen" has proven himself cap- days of the Legion convention which means that possibly as many Legion women as men will be in Logan these three days. But the committees in charge of convention plans are not stopping at this number but will be prepared to entertain every Legionnaire Legion-naire in Utah, should he and his family fam-ily care to attend. 'PLEASE REMEMBER THIS. But a short time ago mention was made in the News as to the proper and improper use and respect of the U. S. flag. It was evident, during the last parade pa-rade and celebration that there are |
