Show Sugar Beet Crop Big In Valley "It is doubtful if there is a section in the entire west that will compare with the wonderful Gunnison valley insofar as crop conditions are concerned. con-cerned. What I have seen on my visit here and the favorable reportf brought in convinces me that the production this year will exceed anything any-thing ever had in the valley. There is every assurance that there will be a bumper crop in sugar beets, hay. grain and all farm products." Thus spoke W. Harvey Ross, president o! the Gunnison Valley 'Sugar company, the first of the week. Mr. Ross was here for several days looking over the big plant and conferring with his lieutenants regarding the work that is being done at the plant. "The plant will soon be in readiness," readi-ness," continued Mr. Ross. The work of remodeling and replacing the old with new and more modern machinery, machin-ery, has been a huge task, but within a short time the job will have been completed, and then the Gunnison Valley factory will compare with the best in the state. "The new machinery which we are Installing and which will be used for reducing the syrup to sugar, is of the latest and most modern type, and by its installation we hope to increase our sugar output materially. This iart of the factory will not be operated oper-ated this year, as there is only some 30 or 40 tons of syrup remaining from last fall's run. However, at the coming fall campaign, we will be prepared to handle this bl-product. and the prospects are encouraging for an increased production of sugar as a result of the addition. "The beet crop throughout the valley val-ley and in fact throughout the entire state, never looked better, and notwithstanding not-withstanding the fact that the season was late and in a few instances replanting re-planting was necessary, the beets are doing splendidly and the results will be that the growers of this valley will enjoy one of the most prosperous prosper-ous years they have had for some time." |
