Show Spend Your Money In Your Home Town Manv of the ablest, minds in the country have been giving a great deal of thought during the last IS months to the problems presented by he de-j flation period and its disastrous effects upon industry and commerce. Factories and mills which had built up their facilities to take care of wartime demand suddenly found themselves facing a lack of demand for, their products which was much less than the average pre-war production. People had stopped buying. The consequence was more unemployment,; which relegated a large group of the people to non-spenders, which in turn; decreased production stll further. And so the vicious circle went on. The cessation of purchasing brought about a stagnation of business and prices began to fall with great rapidity. This falling of prices took place more rapidly in some lines than in others. This naturally brought about a dissatisfaction and further decreased purchasing. It is up to us individuals to lend our might to this general movement to bring back normal conditions. It must not be forgotten that to stimulate normal conditions locally, purchasing must be done locally. Patronize our merchants, farmers and professional men of Gunnison and Sanpete County and they will in turn patronize you. A community is great only so far as the patriotism of its people make it great. This can best be shown by that confidence in each other which is exemplified in some measure by trading at home. The buying at home movement benefits not only the buyer and the home merchant, but the circle is ever widening in is benefits. The movement of goods from the shelves of the local merchant creates demand in Utah factoriesfactories fac-toriesfactories in Ogden and Salt Lake. And much of this money that goes to these towns for wholesale purchases conies back to Sanpete County in purchases of our products which are produced her in excess of the strictly local demand. Many of our residents are employed in the neighboring cities and that money, too, filters into the Gunnison banks and business houses. |
