The above are a few of the provisions pro-visions of the city ordinance which are to be enforced in order to better control the traffic of the "streets of the city. The ordinance is to be enforced en-forced to the letter and to this end Chas. Perkins has been acting a traffic officer during the past week and has been giving some of the more reckless a few "pointers" about regarding the laws. -The sign post installed at the intersection of Main and "Center street has been put there for a purpose and it is intended that it shall be a guide for all travelers coming in and leaving the city at this particular point. The corner at the Gunnison Valley bank has always al-ways been regarded as more or less perilous, in as much as the large building obscures a proper view for autoists turning at this point, and several accidents have been narrowly averted. With the rigid enforecement of the ordinance, however, this danger will be eliminated and autoists are asked to cooperate to the end that this city take lead in maintaining regulations that will prevent any disaster. Traffic Officer Perkins has had some job during the past week. He has been on the corner constantly and many have been given the first lesson on observance of the ordianc-e. ordianc-e. Generally speaking the students have been apt and readily obeyed the command to retrace if caught in the act of infringing and in turning turn-ing the wrong way. Some, however, got "sassy" and as a result wordy conflicts resulted. One man, the mayor of Marysvale, after having been forced to obey the ordinance, "stepped" on the engina and was beating time for Centerfield. Officer Offi-cer Perkins phoned to the marshal at Centerfield and the "racer" was stopped until Mayor Jones and Officer Offi-cer Perkins could visit the sister city. The mayor, realizing that Gunnison meant business, very graciously gra-ciously apologized and promised that when passing through our city, due regard will be paid to the city regulations. regu-lations. The city officials and the officers have declared that the reckless driving driv-ing and disregard of the ordinance shall cease and to this end arrests will follow violations. It is easy to comply to the law and if you are not familiar, post yourself and save a heavy fine. |
