Show Must All Work Together Says Panguitch Editor i Will J. Peters, the "real live" wire and who edits the Garfield County News at Panguitch, has some timely suggestions to offer Sanpete, Sevier, Piute and his own county, Garfield, if we all would enjoy some of the good paved roads that are being and are going to be built. Brother Peters Pe-ters suggests that we come out of the "sleep" and get busy. In his last week's issue he says: It appears more evident each and every day that if the district comprising com-prising Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, Garfield Gar-field and Kane counties is to get anything any-thing in the way of roads on this side of the mountain, or any recognition whatsoever, that they are going to have to get together and stay together. to-gether. If any money is to be spent for advertising matter to be scattered broadcast it will have to be done for our district, and our district alone. Spring is coming, and the Lore! only knows how-much salve will be spread and how many good things will be told if we just "dig up" a certain amount to father some proposition proposed by some association, or other oth-er good roads (?) committees. Turn 'em down, fellows. What have you got .in the past? Probably a little piece of pasteboard with your name on it, to show that "you paid." Fine and dandy. But that don't get us anywhere. What we got to do is to help Hurricane complete the loop from Fredonia, Arizona, to Hurricane, Hurri-cane, so that people will have privi-ledge privi-ledge of going where and when they please. We have got to strain every effort to help complete that road. Every town along the line has got to use every effort they have. We find that we are "alone in the world" when it comes to "doing things," and after finding ourselves in that condition condi-tion year after year, we cannot be blamed for trying to do something for ourselves. .We are absolutely ignored ig-nored after the money is paid. If you don't believe it, look at any newspaper published in the State of Utah and 'see where the pull is going; and if you do not agree with us we will eat our B. V. D's. Richfield people peo-ple have sent men into the different instruction offices at Salt Lake City to inquire bow to see the wonders of southern Utah, and have been instructed in-structed to go the other way, steer-;.ng steer-;.ng them away from their own section. sec-tion. We know this to be absolutely true, for we have it from citizens of Richfield whom we know to be abso lutely responsible, people that have no object in telling falsehoods. People Peo-ple who interested themselves enough to find out just how things were. Now what are we to expect from a deal of this kind? Of course the associations may be going to "do something this year," but, gentlemen, gentle-men, we ask you what has been done? The old saying, once tried, twice shy, will have to be used, and we must go after things ourselves. Get with the people of this district and light, and light good and hard. This soft soap and salve lias been spread until it has started to run like molasses in the summer, and we are standing here with no bread to catch it on, and we must meet the situation with the facts that we are going to do something, and do it quick. The News believes the towns north of us will stand with us, and will help to do things and do them at once. Promises are fine and dandy, but action ac-tion is what we want. This paper has been in existance two years now and has heard all kinds of promises, but as yet we have not seen one shovel of dirt turned over that has not cost a lot of trouble and grief, or has been done by volunteer labor, aside from what the county commissioners have had done. Suppose we hold a big meeting and get this Hurricane and Fredonia road before the people in the proper manner, man-ner, and get something going at once. If help cannot be derived from the state and federal sources, the people of this district, from Mt. Pleasant to Fredonia can do wonders, and we will receive for our reward ten fold the price that it will cost. On, on, to the Biggest and Grandest Scenic Loop in the World. To Heck with the money interests, let's build a road that the poor people want, one that will give the people of the world a chance to see Everything, and quit harping that "if they go to Richfield and Panguitch that they will have to turn around and go back and double dou-ble the roads." Come on, Sanpete and Sevier, and let's show a little of the Spirit that is noted in our country. coun-try. We can build it, and will do it. Form an association of our own. Get busy right now. Spend our time and money on a road that will let the world see Scenery, and the poor man haul Bread and Butter. Highways to California are fine and dandy," but let's do something for Utah now. Don't worry about California for a few days they have lots of good roads, oranges, and. "Beautiful Sunshine." |
