Show Utah Editor Is Summoned Beyond Harry Wilbert Cooper, better known to the newspaper fraternity of the state as "Coop," answered the call of "30" at his home in Price last Monday. Mr. Cooper was editor and manager for the News-Advocate, one of the best weekly publications in the western country and he was widely known in Utah for his firmness firm-ness in stating facts, his ability to boost and his wonderful personality, vhich won for him hosts of friends. Mr. Cooper came to Utah some twenty years ago, assuming charge of the publication at Price. Ill health and the delights of the mountainous country served as the magnet for his coming. The disease, though, was deep seated and the call from the great unknown came Monday. It is doubtful if any newspaperman in the western section was better known than was "Coop." Notwithstanding Notwith-standing his ill health he was always the same smiling, congenial and with an open heart for all. Generous Gener-ous to a fault Mr. Cooper was al- ways looking after the comforts of those in distress and the many little "helps" given the needy were known only by the donor and receiver. "Coop" was a fighter for the rights of the people and often his publication publica-tion "cut deep" for violators. His attitude, however, won for him more friends and thorugh this medium he was known and loved by all. Mr. Cooper was most active in exporting ex-porting Utah's wonderful resources. He was foremost in upbuilding the section through which his paper circulated, cir-culated, and he was a peer in the State Press association which he joined join-ed when it was first organized. Mr. Cooper was an active member and a trustee in the Methodist church at Price and was also a member of the Commercial and Kiwanias clubs and a strong proponent of civic and educational edu-cational progress. Following brief funeral services at his home in Price the remains of Mr. Cooper were taken to Winterset, Iowa for final interment. Mrs. Cooper, the grief stricken widow was the silent mourner that accompanied the remains. |
