Show Axtell Planning Big Celebration The 1 16th anniversary of the sign-i sign-i ing of the Declaration of Independence Independ-ence next Tuesday will be cele-! cele-! brated at Axtell with pomp and i glory. The "spirit of 1776" and the "spirit of 1922" will be combined and the citizens and hosts of visitors that will visit Axtell on that day will do honor in truly patriotic style. The festivities will open with the firing of a salute at sunrise. At this j time "Old Glory" will be unfurled to I the winds by William Nielson, who I will be marshal of the day. Another feature of the early morning exercises exer-cises will be a serenade by minstrels ! and chorus. Miss Elvcrda Jensen has been nomcd "Goddess of "Liberty." She will reign throughout the day and acting as her maids will be Winona Olson and Ruby Jensen. A truly patriotic program has been arranged and will start promptly prompt-ly at ten o'clock at the hall. Following Follow-ing is the program: Opening Song "America" Congregation Prayer Bishop C. L. Sorenson Vocal Solo .... Mrs. Alonzo Jensen Closing Remarks Chairman Benediction Chaplain Beginning at 1:30 there will be a dance for the children. The dance will close at 3 o'clock when the sports, which are to be attractive and interesting, will start. The-committee on this part of the program has arranged the following: RACES Ages 6 to 8. Boys and Girls 50 yard dash. Ages 9 to 11 50 yard dash. Ages 12 to 14 50 yard dash. Ages 15 to 17 50 yard dash. Girls' "egg race," 75 yards. Age 17 and up Boys' sack race, 25 yards. Gil ls' eating contest. Big pillow fight, free-for-all. Wedding race, free-for-all. 100-yard 100-yard dash, free-for-all. 100-yard horse race remove saddle sad-dle at end of line and return, then back and re-saddle and return. Quarter-mile horse race, free-for-all. Pulling match On cross-locked wagon, free-for-all, big purse. Boxing contests with aspirants of different weights. Appropriate prizes will be awarded award-ed to the winners of these events. The big celebration will conclude with a grand dance at the hall. Good music will be furnished for this occasion oc-casion and everybody is invited to be present and enjoy a royal, good time. |
