Show - Manti Forest News During the past two weeks, one or more of the forest service slides, "Forestry in Agriculture," "Forestry and Geography," "Fish and Game," "Forest Management" and "The Work of the Forest Service," have been shown at Castle Dale, Orange-ville, Orange-ville, Huntington, Ephraim, Manti. Gunnison, and Fairview. The forest sojrvlce reels, "The Fiery Lance" and "Garden Gold." have been shown at the picture houses in Mt. Pleasant, Fairview, Ephraim and Manti. All the officers of the Manti forest have taken a hold of this work, and with the natural advantages we have in the way of towns and settlements situated sit-uated close to the forest, we expect to at least beat the minimum requirement require-ment for that line of PR work. Orangeville permittees sold 500 yearling cattle on April 11. The price received for the stock, which consisted of both steers and heifers, was $25 per head. The Ferron stockmen stock-men disposed of their yearling steers at the same figure, delivery to be made on April 17. All the forest rangers on the Manti forest with the exception of Ranger Anderson, who is a new man, have completed the manual review and are now ready for the elective courses. The Straight canyon road has beer cleaned out and repaired during the past week for the donation work of a few public-spirited individuals from Castle Dale and Orangeville. This will permit travel to and from the ranches in Joe's valley. The damage from last winter's storms has been much lighter than it was for a yeai ago. The damage to the big dugwa below Olson canyon is such that it will not require a great deal of work to put the road in good shape as soon as the winter's snow has gone. Some of our Manti sheep permittees permit-tees have recently contracted their lambs for October delivery at 9 V2 cents per pound. Many of the sheep men feel that lambs will bring better prices than this next fall. However, where a good substantial advance payment is received the stockman contracting his lambs feels that there is little chance for him to lose very much through the transaction. The officers of the Bureau of Animal Ani-mal Industry in charge of the cattle scab infestation in Emery . county spoke very highly of the assistance given them by Ranger Howard In controlling the disease in that section. sec-tion. His thorough knowledge of I the local situation has made him a I very valuable assistant in that work. |
