Show Model oT a Snmoan House. Tho British museum has received what hi directly or indirectly a gift from bis Polynesian Poly-nesian majesty, King Malietoa, of Samoa, a very uont and liuicd model of a iSamoan house, r.iis model, which from tho floor to the ridged summit of the roof measures about two feet and a half, is circular in form, and is supported by a center pillar, round which are distributed, at distances of about flvo inches, twenty other pillars, overlapped by the projecting and depending roof. This last is mado interiorally of wicker work, on which is piled layer after layer of pieces of bark or papyrus liko fiber. Two parallel creens give a sort of privacy to a portion at the interior, and the spaco they enclose Is carpeted with a neat kind of malting. Horn Journal. |
