Smith and party par-ty stopped but a few minutes to greet the crowd that had been in waiting two hours or more on Main street Wednesday afternoon. A number of children and not a few of the more elderly people were gratified with the opportunity to shake hands with the venerable president, although there was a feeling of disappointment that the itinery would not permit the party's stay long enough for tbeiii to alight for a brief public talk. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Dowd of San Francisco are the guests of Mrs. Dowd's parants, Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Mace a few days. Mr. Dowd is en route overland home, having made the trip east via the Panama canal. Mrs. Dowd came to Gunnison some time ago to visit with her parents in the absence of her husband, whose trip east was of a business nature. Kev. Nethery of Eichfield was greeted with a splendid audience at the Presbyterian chapel in this city Wednesday evening, to hear his concluding con-cluding lecture on "The Life of Christ." The lecture was richly illustrated il-lustrated by stereoptican views portrayal por-trayal of the unjust trial, and condemnation con-demnation of Jesus, and His crucifixion cruci-fixion and resurrection. The first half of the lecture was given here by Mr. Kethery some weeks back, in which the birth, early life and the ministry of Christ was vividly depicted. de-picted. ' The JBoys' and Girls' club exhibit Wednesday at Centerfleld was a most creditable affair and reflects great credit upon Principal C. E. Embley, who has had the tutorship and arrangement ar-rangement in charge. The exhibit compared favorably with those at the general fairs. The boys and girls deserve credit for their loyalty to the work which they have continued since close of school. Some fine specimens spe-cimens of results from farm and garden gar-den work as well as handiwork were among the exhibits. A fine program pro-gram was given later in the afternoon as a climax. President Joseph F Smith and party stopped at Center-field Center-field and they accepted the invitation to be shown over the exhibit. The children afterward presented each member of the party with a bouquet of flowers. |
