Show Hagan this city. They left yesterday for their home at East BakersSeid. California, purposing a brief visit en route at MeGill, Nevada, with Mrs. Armistead's sister, Mrs. J. H. Salmon formerly of Gunnison. The RelieT society annual held last Tuesday was made interesting by a choice program o( recitations, songs, music, and a talt on gardening by Mrs. Roxie Christenson, in connection connec-tion with a general review of the society's so-ciety's work the past year interestingly interesting-ly related by President Sena Pred-rickson. Pred-rickson. Mrs H. A. Kearns also gave a retrospect of the work done by the lied Gross, of which she is president and in w hi-ii members of the Relief take creditable part. The party given last Saturday ev-evening ev-evening at Peterson hall in honor ol Hugh Kearns and Arlon Rowen, two new volunteers who left Tuesday for Fort Uiley, Kans , was attended by an immense crowd. The contribution contribu-tion amounted to $180. The dancing was iitterspersed by an excellent patriotic pa-triotic program, the high school band giving an overture for the opening. The affair was intended also as a remembrance re-membrance to those who left recently without it being known in time for the customary recognition. Local Echoes. Miss Leah Beck of Ephraim is visiting visit-ing witli her mother, Mrs. A.J. Chris-tensen Chris-tensen until Easter. The regular meeting of the Royal Neighbor lodge was held Monday evening ev-ening at the home of Mrs. Villard. Mrs A. J. Christensen entertained Sunday evening in honor of her hus-biud's hus-biud's birthday anniversary. An evening of pleasant sociability was enjoyed by twenty-four guests. Mrs. Anna S. Larson, who attained her eighty-fourth birthday on Friday last was honored by a gathering ol her aged Irieuds and members of the family at her home in commemoration commemora-tion of the event. An excellent dinner din-ner was served by her daughters, Miss Tilda Larson and Mrs. Hannah Jep-The Jep-The 20 guests who, were present speui, a delightful afternoon in social chat. Mr. and Mrs. William Metcalf returned re-turned Sunday from a pleasure tour the past month in the state of Washington. Wash-ington. On their tour they visited Camp Lewis cantonment and think it a veritable beauty spot situated as it is in a clearace among a vast forest of tall pines. They were deeply impressed im-pressed with the activity among the large body of soldier boys there for training. Rev Nethery will give an illustrated illustra-ted lecture in the Presbyterian chap el Wednesday evening, March 27 at 8 o'clock. Mr. Nethery hopes to receive re-ceive from the government scenes showing the result of the war in France. If these scenes do not come in time he will give the final leoture on "The Life of Paul," showing some of the beautiful scenery of Rome. William Applebaum, who recently arrived here from Philadelphia is a brother of Mrs. H. S. Basow. Mr. Applebaum is a plumber by trade and will be employed by Mr. Basow whose business in the tinning, plumbing and heating line has grown to such proportion pro-portion as to require more help. The Social Circle club members will entertain their husbands this Friday evening at the home of Mrs. J. M. Knighton. At a late hour refreshments refresh-ments will be served at the Elltecafe. Club was entertained by Mrs. Ray H. Metcalf last week, when Mrs. George Ilalverson gave a reading on"Decislon and Lack of It." The next regular meeting of the club will take place A pril 3 with Mrs. Julius Duggins as hostess. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Armistead were guests of relatives in Gunnison the past ten days.' Before coming here they visited a sister of Mrs. Armistead's, Armi-stead's, namely Mrs. Harold S. Parker Par-ker of Brant, Canada, several days. Mrs. Armistead will be remembered as Miss Effle Madsen, daughter of C. M. Madsen and sister to Mrs. J. A. |
