A.J.sVisel, father of the former speaker and mayor of Santa Ana. California, Cal-ifornia, put the club in the best of humor by a spicy talk on experiences in the development of his city and Orange county of which it is the county coun-ty seat. He told how land there had advanced in value, particularly so through the cultivation of sugar beets, from $30 an acre only a few years ago until now it is hard to buy at $400. This healthy condition, lie said, was reached only by ths utmost attention to unity on the part of the inhabitants inhabi-tants and a relegation of the knocking spirit Mayor Visel's talk was most inspiring and optimistic. It will serve as an impetus on lines of co-operative effort in the endeavor to develop de-velop the many resources at hand. Discussion from members favored concession of the club rooms gratis to the Red Cross and on terms of rental ren-tal to other organizations, if wanted at such time as not in use by the club. Treasurer Rasmussen gave an encouraging en-couraging report on behalf of the ways and means committee. Hinze, sugar sug-ar expert, all of Santa Ana, Calilor-nla, Calilor-nla, Max Daniels, of Salt Lake, managing man-aging director of the sugar factorv, and S. L. Swartz, inspector Utah state board of health. Vice President II. A. Kearns was in the chair, with E. A. Porter as secretary sec-retary and J. W. Jones critic of the evening. Before the meeting had proceeded very long the light service renewed its pranks of a week ago, which left the room in total darkness except for the red glare of lighted cigars ci-gars that threw an air of seance over the room. However, candles were soon procured and the meeting resumed re-sumed informally. Chairman Kearns drew attention to a number of subjects the club might discuss with a view of bringing to public notice the many opportunities opportuni-ties in this valley and immediate vicinity vi-cinity awaiting development, such as coal formations, salt that is unequal-ed unequal-ed anywhere, oil prospects, water power, and not least our empire of agricultural lands that must contribute contrib-ute toward the success of the sugar factory now In course of erectioh in the valley. Mr. Schwartz responded with a brief explanation of his visit to our city at this time', namely to make on behalf of the state board of health an inspection of the sanitary conditions here. Mr. Schwartz in this connection connec-tion urged our making a vigorous campaign this spring in the annual clean town contest, especiallly recommending that prizes locally be offered the school children as an inducement in-ducement to their assisting to keep Classified Ads.
