Show Resolutions Adopted by the Social Betterment Convention Con-vention at Moroni. TOBACCO It being evident that the sale of tobacco to minors and the use of the i same by minors is being generally dis regarded, be it the sense of this conference, con-ference, that the siauuus regulating the sale to and the use of tobacco by minors be enforced and that the display dis-play of tobacco advertisements be discouraged. , THE DANCE So that the social value of the dance siiallbe unimpaired, and contribute I its part to(the moral deqelopmeut, e . pledge the support of this convention to the following: j 1 The hours of the dance shall be i from 8:30 to IV.iO p. m. 2 Each .diice hall should be required re-quired to hjtye an active floor manager, mana-ger, who sh.all spend his whole Lime upon tbe floor and about the hall, directing di-recting the dance and maintaining the regulations. 3 Au open position must be maintained main-tained in all dances. No portion whicli encroaches in the slightest de gree upon modesty and refinement! should be permitted. Action should be taken against the management ot any hail that does not enforce this rule, on the grounds of conducting au immoral place of amusement. Young people should not be permitted per-mitted in the dance hall under the age of 15 years unless attended by parent par-ent or guardian. Smoking in the dance hall and cloak room should be prohibited. CONFECTIONERY SHOPS We favor the closing of confectionery confection-ery shops at an hour not later than 11 o'clock p. m. on week days and not later la-ter than 9 o'clock p. m. on Sunday. THE AUTOMOBILES Recognizing that the use of the automobile aut-omobile by the young people for night riding is derogatory to their moral welfare and is one of the worst of our social evils, we therefore desire to be understood as opposed to the practice unless the young people are attended by some responsible adult. We suggest that the permanent organization, or-ganization, effected by this convention conven-tion draft and, send a letter to all automobile auto-mobile owners in this county, asking their co-operation in keeping their automobiles out of the hands of young people for pleasure riding. THE CURFEW We favor a more rigid enforcement of the curfew law. THE MOVING PICTURE In view of the fact that national censorship on moving pictures has not been effective in communities of the average picture show is decidedly questionable and yet recognizing the possibilities of the picture show, we recommend that the matter be taken up w,itli the managers of picture show houses to encourage them to get a better class of pictures We recommend that parents discourage dis-courage nightly attendance at picture shows. PROBATION OFFICERS We favor the appointment of the marshals of the respective cities and toy?nsof the county as deputy probation proba-tion officers, to give greater effect to their work with juveniles. ORDINANCES We favor the enactment by the various va-rious towns and cities of the county of uniform ordinances in conformity to the recommendations included in the above resolutions. We pledge our moral support as a convention and as individuals to the carrying out of the foregoing resolutions resolu-tions and pledge our aid aud assistance assis-tance to the civil officers in enforcing the law. The recom mendations of the com mittee on permanent organization, that the superintendent of the respective respec-tive school districts be authorized to apppoint three active members of tills organization, in each commuulty was adopted. |
