Show No Place for a Washington. Dr. R. J. Campbell, the English Chrlstian-SociaJist, was condemning, at a luncheon In Philadelphia, a certain cer-tain type of modern business man. "This type of man," he said, "Is precisely pre-cisely opposite to '-George Washington. Washing-ton. Washington got on by telling the truth. This man gets on by lying. "It reminds me of a story. "A very successful business man took his son Into his em. Joy, and the youth, after a few days' work, entered en-tered his father's office and said disconsolately:. dis-consolately:. " 'Dad, I'm afraid I shan't make good here. You see, I'm not used to lying-' "But the father laughed easily. " 'Oh,' he said, 'if yon tell the truth In a place like this, everybody'Il believe be-lieve you're lying, anyway.' " |
