Show A FABLE. By Nemo. Once a kind man gave a bucket of ice oream each to a Jackrabbit and a Turtle to take to their wives and children. . Both lived a long ways off, and the weather was very hot, for it was in midsanimer. The Jaokrab-bit Jaokrab-bit had just bought a new automobile, and in it he jumped with his bucket of cream, and was soon safe at home and his family enjoying their feast. The Turtle, however, was what is known as an "old fogy." He would not have an automobile, even as a gift. To his way of thinking, the old way of travel was the best. So he started home with his buo ket of ice cream on his back, and as he trudged along the hot dusty road and aoross the dry prairie, he became weary and sat down to rest and doze ; his ice oream in the meantime having melted to slop. A flook of crows seeing the Turtle asleep, settled around his bucket of cream and drank it all up, On waking wak-ing up the Turtle discovered his loss, and with a sad heart he trudged home without a treat for his little ones, but blaming theorowi for his bad luck. MORAL. From this fable we are reminded, that there are some new things under the sun which we Bhould adopt, if we would keep np with the spirit of the age, and keep the crows away. |
