Co-operation Sermon Theme Rev. C.H Hamilton preached Sunday Sun-day evening from the text, "Bear ye oue another's burdens , and so fill till the law of Christ," and one similar, 'We then that are Btrong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak.'' Rev. Hamilton said wtien Jesu9 was talking to his disciples about spiritual things on one occasion, a man came to him and BBked that he bid his brother divide the inheritance with him. Jesus refused, and in his refusal really declined to enter the discussion of what we in this day call economics. It does not follow, the speaker continued, that Jesus was not interested in even the nnB,noiai interests of men. Applying in our business relations the principle laid down in the text men call it by the name of co-operation, a word that means simply working work-ing together, continued the speaker. In athletics we call it team work, and do baseball club or basketball team; ever won a victory worth speaking of without good team work. It is a principle used by great corporations for good or bad, The devil makes large use of it, despite his natural disposition to quarrel. The co-operation of the United States govern- ment with the saloon power, and therefore with, tbe haunts of vice and gambling hells, must delight Satan. The principle, however, must not be condemned because it is applied to evil ends. This last week we have been uryed to apply Paul's admonition in the text to our business relations, he further remarked. We are asked toconsider our neighbor and the citizen of our own State to buy Utah , products, things manufactured in Utah, especially espe-cially that the industrial interests of the State be advanced and give employment em-ployment to more men in Utah. Some thiisgs may cot be profitable as a Utah product and some firms may need rebuke, but the principle of cooperation co-operation is good.- We ought to support sup-port our own manufacturers and busi nesa men as much as possible. Tbe farmer also needs consideration as much as these. Rev. Hamilton then referred to other oth-er fields in which we ought to co-operate, where the motive is less selfish, among them for good roads, for sanitary san-itary conditions so necessary to the |
