Ferre of this city has recently-devised recently-devised a water gate of steel construction, construc-tion, for use in canals and ditches. Embeded in cement, the device so far excels the timber-constructed kind that already it is having a considerable consider-able demand by irrigation companies in this vicinity and promises to be quite generally adopted. Mr. Ferre has under negotiation with foundries in this state, the manufacture man-ufacture of his gate in large quantities quanti-ties and expects soon to have them on the market. In a recent visit to Salt-Lake Salt-Lake he exhibited his device to the government and state engineers and to others who are interested extensively exten-sively in irrigation projects, meeting ready favor, he says, everywhere the gate has been shown, Mr. 1'erre has taken the necessary steps, he declares, to protect his de- |
