He never tried to shirk; He always answered every call And blithely did his work. He never oared to read about The deeds of Deadwood Dick; His parents never sent word that Their darling son waa sick; His grandma never died, and so He worked day after day; He went where he was told to go, Nor loitered on the way. He had no taste for playing Jokes, Around the busy place; It was a pleasure to behold His bright and happy face; He never hummed a ragtime air Nor puffed a cigarette, And when iey left things to his cars They knew he'd not forget. He never practiced dancing Jigs, Nor spoke till spoken to; He never sneaked away at night While there was work to do Yet of that good boy there is a Surprising thing to learn; The fact Is that he's not today The head of that .concern. |
