Show Coaling Plants at Panama. The plan of Col. Goethals for making mak-ing Panama a point of supply of coal, oil, etc., for shipping is a splendid feature. fea-ture. Several piers 1,000 feet long will be built at Balboa on the Pacifio side. Here also will be a drydock with a usable length of 1,000 feet and a depth of thirty-five feet, and a coaling coal-ing plant storing and handling 10,0,000 tons of coal. Repair shops will be constructed con-structed which will handle large jobs of repair and refitting. At Cristobal on the Atlantic will be constructed several piers 1,000 feet in length and a large coal storage plant, capable of handling and storing from 200,000 300,000 tons of coal. |
