Show ARE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE MOB IN NICARAGUA Revolution Has Reached a Stage Bordering Bor-dering on Anarchy, Rebel Leaders Being Unable to Check Violence. Washington. The revolution in Nicaragua has reached a stage bordering border-ing on anarchy, as General Mena, the rebel chief, and his lieutenants seem to be unable to control the mob spirit that prevails in many of the towns, particularly at Leon, the scene of sev--eral barbaric outrages. Dispatches received by the department depart-ment of state from Minister Weitzel are the basis of this belief. In a message mes-sage dated August 2S and received by the state department on Saturday, the minister repeats his previous statements state-ments that outlawry is rampant and that the rebel leaders are unable to check violence against foreigners, even though they had a disposition to do so. The Salvadorean minister at Managua, who was interned by the rebels at Leon, has returned to the capital and has furnished the American Ameri-can minister with many facts regarding regard-ing the gravity of the situation. Danger of another attack on Managua has been lessened, it is believed by Minister Weitzel, by the capture of 80,000 rounds of rapid-fire cartridge from the rebels. |
