Show Abolishes Public Drinking Cups. The Utah state bo ird of health has issued the following notice: Whereas : The use of the common com-mon drinking cup is known to be a soured of disease and menance to the public, Therefore, Be it ruled by ths state board of health that the use of the commou drinking cup on railroad trains, in the public or private schools and stato educational educa-tional institutions of Utah, is hereby prohibited from aud after February 1st, 1912. No person or corporation in charge of any railroad train or station or public or private school or state "educational institution shall furnish any drinking cup for public use, and no such per-on per-on or corporation shall permit on said train or at said station or public or private school" or state educational institution, the use of the public drinking cups. This custom has been observed for some time at various places in the state and has pioven beneficial to public health The sanitary drinking drink-ing fountain has been installed in the local school building at aa.opportune time, in view of the present law. When you anticipate a journey by train don't forget to take your own drinking cup along. Supplemental to its December, bulletin the state board of health also recent!) issued the following: One of the evidences of an increasing increas-ing public interest in disease prevention preven-tion is furnished by the recent convictions con-victions of persons guilty of violating the quarantine lawn and the severity of the penalties imposed. In one instance occuring at Lehi a man who failed to report a case of contagious disease and refused to obey quarantine quaran-tine rules was fined 50 00. In the town of Mammoth, the promoter pro-moter of a public dance were convicted con-victed and fined for refusing to comply com-ply with the order of the board of the board of health to suspend the dance because of the prevalence of smallpox. Such examples of a determination on the part of local authorities to enforce en-force Banitary laws will deter others from violating them and result in great good to the public health. The Bame policy should be adopted in all localities, and an aroused public pub-lic sentiment should uphold the health authorities in making it effective. ef-fective. Ihere can be no possible extenuation extenua-tion for the conduct of any person who knowingly conceals a contagious disease or otherwise endangers the health and lives of others; and yet many good citizens who become aware of such lawelssness fail to report the fact to the proper, authorities and health officers themselves frequently permit offenders to go unpunished rather than incur their ill will. Also it has frequently happened that the law haB been made a farce by justices, who failing to appreciate the serious nature of such exegencies, have imposed impos-ed trivial penalties afie? conviction in flagrant cases. The state board of health will conduct con-duct or assist in prosecutions when requested by lecal health officers. Local boards of health are requested request-ed to cooperate in the enforcement of the rules and in case of their violation to report to the state board. . |
