Show GAVE LIFE FOR CHILD. Montana Man Drowned in Endeavor to Save His Niece From Drowning. Missoula, Mont. A special to the Missoulian from Eddy, Mont., says: While attempting to cross the darks Fork river here on Sunday in a frail boat, E. P. Cortney, a deputy forest guard, and his 5-year-old niece, Imo-gene Imo-gene Wilde, wrere drowned and Mrs. Courtney barely escaped death. The three attempted to cross the river near the Eddy depot in a skiff that Mr. Courtney had rigged with a sail. The stream is now at its flood height and the boat was carried against a snag. The craft was upset and the three occupants were thrown into the rushing waters. Mrs. Courtney managed man-aged to cling to the overturned boat and was rescued in a half drowned condition. Mr. Courtney attempted to save his little niece and both were carreid away by the current. Courtney Court-ney was a deputy guard in the Cabinet Cabi-net forest and was formerly a well known newspaer man of the west. |
