Show HUBBY NOT THE GUILTY ONE Mrs. Hiltop Blushes Yet When She ' Recalls Her Experience as a Runner Down of Evil. On one of the sun-kissed hilltops overlooking our fair city there dwells a pair whose married life for nigh a ecore of years had flowed along in unruffled serenity. But recently the cankering blight of suspicion fell upon the house of happiness, the green-eyed monster of Jealousy took up Its abode therein. It. was all on account of "Sadie," who was entirely too good-looking good-looking for an ideal domestic. Now It had always been the custom of Mr. Hiltop, upon returning from the day's business, to enter the house by way of the basement door, which was the most convenient way. Until Sadie's advent his action had always gone unquestioned. Hut of late Mrs. Hiltop had heard certain sinister sounds emanating from the lower regions, re-gions, such as whisperings, titterings and sundry smacks, which, to the feminine fem-inine ear, bore tidings of evil import. She determined to keep an eye on her husband. Also on Sadie. The following evening at about the usual time for her husband's return. she arranged an errand for Sadie which would keep her busy upstairs for some time. Then she descended to the kitchen, hastily donned the natty cap and apron usually worn by Sadie, and as heavy footsteps sounded on the pavement outside she took her position po-sition In the dimly lighted hallway hall-way with her back to the door. Scarcely had she done so when the door was opened, there was a chuckle, chuck-le, then she was seized in a lusty embrace, em-brace, a rough chin was thrust over her shoulder, and a resounding kiss planted on her cheek. With eyes flashing fire and bosom swelling with jealous wrath, Mrs. Hiltop Hil-top tore the disguising cap from her head, wheeled about then tottered weakly Into a corner. Before her stood a grinning giant with a pair of ice tongs in his hand. Pittsburg Gazette-Times. |
