Show A recent letter of Joe Tumulty, the president's presi-dent's secretary, to certain Democrats in New ' Jersey, asking that they forego their plan to start a boom for Mr. WBlson renomination next year because the president "feels that it might seem $f as if he were taking advantage of the extraordinary extraor-dinary situation now existing .to gain some (personal (per-sonal advantage through such an expression of confidence in him," must have caused the Gloomiest Gloom-iest Gus In the Democratic party to smile in his sleeve. That same "extraordinary situation" is the line bright ray which has reached the Democracy Democ-racy since that party became the tail of the Wil-sonian Wil-sonian kite. Every man who has crticlzed the administration during the period of its diplomatic travail has been accused of lacking patriotism; every appeal to the public is based on the marvelous mar-velous foreign policy of the president. It is the one great issue on which the followers of Mr. Wil- fy son desire to go to the country in 1316. The identity of the Democratic party is merged In that of the present occupant of the White House. |
