Show An American engineer, who has re-Y re-Y contly returned from abroad, had an opportunity of making an Investigation Investiga-tion Into the condition of St. Paul's cathedral which Is in rather alarming condition because of threatened collapse. col-lapse. Some proposed underground connections have been abandons owing ow-ing to the frail conditloa of the historic his-toric structure. According to the en-glner en-glner the cause of the building's distress dis-tress seems to be due to two reasons settlement of the foundations and the failure of 'materials used In tho foundations. It has been discovered that some of the stone made use of by Sir Christopher Wren, and which are now supporting a weight of thirteen thir-teen tons to the square foot, were taken from tho original building, and ewre, therefore, centuries old before being placed In the present structure. The stones bear evidence of Norman workmanship. |
