Show M SPORTING GOSSIP. H H The heartbroken fans are getting !very used to the wire from the north which reads, "Salt Lake loses." Judging from the reports which are H to he believed, inasmuch as they are f being sent by Salt Lake writers who H are with the team, there has been f little excuse for the long series of Hf defeats, and which have come through V costly errors at crucial times in the 1 games. Great Falls put it over the K Skyscrapers time and again, and the M way that Helena was given the game H on Tuesday was disgraceful. A bad W day for even the best of players is H allowable now and then, but to make m that excuse day after day successive- M ly is not conducive to much elation in M the heart of the local fan, and the B somnambulistic stunts of the players 1 after their 'Monday respite was Inex- H cusable. The idea of three men get- H ting under a ball twice in the same H. game and letting it fall to the ground H for lack of instructions as to who H should take it, is a joke, and they H deserved what they got. B H It's a little late for Cooley and Mc- H Closkey to begin to holler at this time H because Great Falls has probably H gone over the salary limit in paying H isome of the big players on their team H something in addition to their sal- H aries. There is very little question H that the side money received by them H greatly exceeds the $1,500 salary limit, H but the other owners knew this a H couple of months ago just as well as H they know it now, and the time for H them to have protested was when H they first suspected that the league H headliners had some high priced tal-H tal-H ent. It is in the nature of the baby l act to try to take the pennant away B from them on that plea if they hap-H hap-H pen to win it and they probably will H for the time to act was some weeks H ago, before they were at the top of H the list. 1 H Very peculiar, wasn't it, that Jackie H Clarke should be disqualified for foul-M foul-M ing at Newark in the race with Kra B mer and the other big ones a few H nights ago? Wlho ever heard of such M a thing as Jackie having any intends inten-ds tion of ever fouling anyone on a track? m It is absurd to think that he would B take any advantage gained in this B way. M Speaking seriously, it is ipretty Hj nearly time that he was taken in fl hand for his constant attempts to win H, his races in any way he sees fit. He M spoiled more than one of the cham- ' pionship races here and made him- Hj self more unpopular than ever by the H methods he used in the race with H( Kramer when he performed some of H' the dirtiest work he has been guilty BJ H This city will be one of the few im- Hu portant stops for the California play- Bji ers who have recently made such I1 great tennis records in the east, and i their exhibits here during the coming Hi tournament should prove a great at- w traction for the tennis fans. Some of H them, notably Bundy, have been seen hero before, and their coming is being be-ing anticipated by the rapidly growing grow-ing number of excellent players the city now boasts. The tournament and exhibition games will be held at the Country club, and all of the interest is not centered in the outside stars, for there is a great deal of new local talent and a number of close and exciting ex-citing contests are looked forward to. |
