Show Ijijr i , "' "- " ' ' & fr.O. Nane O'Neil's season at the Adelphi theatre, London, which closed last week, on account of the illness of the actress, has been a financial loss to her managers to the extent of about $20,000. "Iris" is the name of Arthur Wing Pinero's new play and was produced for the first time at the Criterion Theatre, New York, last week, to Inaugurate the second starring: season of Virginia Harned under the management of Charles Froh-man. Froh-man. It is based on the infraction of the Seventh Commandment, and. of course, will attract the public in proportion to its Sappho features. It is hardly the class of entertainment which can be recommended to morally-inclined theatre-goers. Nat Goodwin and Maxine Elliott opened at the Hollis Street Theatre, in Boston, in "When We Were Twenty-One,"" to a "standing-room-only" house, and scored instant success. Miss Julia Dean's impersonation of "The Firefly" in the cast was received with merited applause, and the talented tal-ented actress was called upon to respond to repeated re-peated encores. The following attractions are booked at the Salt Lake Theatre: "Hearts of Oak," "Bonnie Brier Bush," "James and Warde," "Under Two Flags," "Over the Fence," "King Dodo." The Tivoli Opera company, which has been entertaining large audiences this week at the Salt Lake Theatre, in "The Toy Maker," "The Serenade" Sere-nade" and "The Idol's Eye," closed last evening. Ferris Harttman and Annie Meyers were the fun-makers fun-makers in each performance, and fully sustained their roles, eliciting continuous applause throughout through-out the performances. The only Hermann tonight. The grotesque- Frenchmen, "Alphonse and Gaston," will be the attraction on the boards at the Salt Lake Theatre all next week, and, with plenty of bright, catchy music, ready wit and scenes of gayety, every performance should be well attended. The musical farce will be well worth seeing and will serve to lighten the everyday every-day tragedy which requires something lightsome to evoke good cheer and pass away the evening hours. |
