Show THE PRESIDENT'S VISIT. B President Roosevelt was received with cheers 9 and acclaims, shouts and salvoes, with fife and 9 brass and waving plumes. It was an echo of the 9 same note which has swelled into a grand chorus 9 of praise between the two oceans. The decora- l9 tions suffered a slight spoliation by courtesy of 9 the Storm King, but it is probable that the Stren- 9 uous Man enjoyed the rugged greeting of his old 9 comrade, the Westerner, far more than the out- 9 ward seeming of ornamental embellishment. The 9 citizens gave him a welcome that was unlforally 9 enthusiastic and whole-hearted-rough-rode him, as 9 it were, into the center of the metropolis, showed 9 him the smiling morning faces of the most ro- 9 bust children in the world, and later introduced 9 him to the thunders of the organ in the great au- 9 ditorlum. It was a grand privilege for the ambl- 9 tlous young American to see that homely, rugged 9 face, the puissant flash of the warrior eye, and to 9 hear the strong and vibrant force of a voice that is 9 always raised in praise of the highest ideals of 9 true Americanism. 9 |
