Show W& is Dying Hard t Kearns Tarty wM Shotvs Spasmodic Signs of Life Its Unpaid 'Bills H Ty School Election. KThe American party was ground very fine in ffi late contest, but it is dying exceeding hard. ffery once in a while its official organ wakes up BTOg enough to hiss something about controlling ffi next school election, although it,' does ffif make it plain just how this is to be achieved. HThe few leaders who have not already left the ffill "American" barge are themselves divided in TOnion as to whether they should attempt to fflfce a full ticket in the Held or endorse some of Qp nominees of the other parlies. For instance, Khe Republicans and Demoorats named two Gen-Hffes Gen-Hffes for the board of education in any one or HBbre qf the precincts, would the American party IHmt forth two other Gentiles in opposition to JB?m? Or will they merely name enough candi-Mffiles candi-Mffiles to oppose any Mormons who may be named ffll the other parties, and if this latter course is fflrsued, will it not look so petty and unfair that Wm voters will shut them out of representation on jjffl school board altogether? BB These are the trouolous questions that are just SBgffiv vexing the "reformers" and the problem cer-Haly cer-Haly presents some phases that would require a yBcartean Intellect to solve. Whlohever"v'altrna-Hra Whlohever"v'altrna-Hra they lean to, it looks as if they would nleet gHih a second humiliation at the polls. Surely ijffliro old storm-brewers realize this, since they have !jjjjKScended from the frenzied political war clouds laKtmi have had time for a little post-election medi-Mtja'tion. medi-Mtja'tion. KA very hopeful sign Is that the Tribune has allffit a little of the venom with which it excoriated jHF Gentiles who refused to desert party and prin-ilJle prin-ilJle and oIn its unInvItlnS ranks a few weeks ago. The Tribune fought an unlair, selfish and vindictive fight and lost, and its recent tone of a thoroughly whipped bully is a very pleasing and hopeful sign. Hadn't the Tribune better bid a fond farewell to its little Upstart society, which the voters repudiated, and be good for awhile? |
