Just the week before she had dreamed she was the only one there who had gained weight and had grey hair. Best friends since third grade, she was a guest in the home of Nancy Carolyn and Roy English of Prairie Grove, Ark. The first pre-dawn and morning Rita was there, it rained 24 inches. The reunion itself consisted of the 50 year survivors riding in vintage convertibles to the Home-coming parade, a reception at the law offices of a former classmate, class-mate, and the homecoming football foot-ball game in which Fayetteville beat Van Buren 54 to 3. (It wasn't was-n't the most exciting game) The following morning, there was a brunch at the home of another classmate with TV sets around for those who were interested and could watch the University of Arkansas homecoming game. Saturday evening a banquet and dance was held, but most of the time was dedicated to visiting with friends she hadn't seen for 46 to 50 years. It did turn out to be a wonderful time with gray, wrinkled and saggy friends. |
