In the Northern Hemisphere this occurs during July, August, and early September." The above is what I thought I was going to have to send to the Garfield County News for this week since there appeared to be nothing going on around town. It seemed real quiet in Panguitch aft,er such an event-filled Summer, but fortunately I received a little last minute news to share with you. . Last week the Panguitch LDS Stake held a Young Adult Fireside here in our Stake Center. The guest speaker was Vance Law, head baseball coach at Brigham Young University and according to comments I have heard from some of those who attended including a few "older" young adults, it was one of the best firesides held here. - The Law family includes fivechildren, ages 13 through 23 so. Law could easily relate to the audience he was addressing. He played baseball in the major leagues for about 1 2 years so he was able to share some interesting interest-ing experiences as well as give some good advice to his young listeners. Vance is the brother of Dr. Todd Mooney's wife, Vnl vndn . .Art Cooper "chaperoned" three of his cousins (my sisters), Beverly Crosby, Thais Griffin, and Ardith Davis, on a trip to Monticello to see and attend the newly renovated LDS temple and to take in some of the scenic wonders of that area. (Art offered to take them if they would fix a lunch.) They must have prepared plenty because Beverly said the highlights of the trip was eating their lunches at the roadside parks. They even experienced a drenching rain .while eating one of the lunches. They visited Mexican Hat, saw all. of the natural bridges in Monument Valley, and traveled to the top of Moqui Dugway to look down on the entire valley. (They could see miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles.) - Wednesday evening (Sept. 1) our Panguitch Lions Club held their annual steak fry at Allen and Jeanie Henrie's ranch. (Kon's ranch to you old timers.) The cooks did an excellent job with the food (broiled steak, broiled corn-in-the-husk, baked potatoes) along with a variety of salads, cakes and drinks (soft) which was furnished by some of the wives. A short business meeting was held "at which Phil and Pamela Norton were voted in as the newest members of our club. There were 27 members and guests present and we all had a good time. We extend an open invitation to anyone who is interested in becoming a member mem-ber of the Lions Club and join in doing things that help our city, schools, and individuals whenever when-ever a need arises. (We would surely like to see some of our younger citizens under 80 become members.) We appreciate appreci-ate the efforts of those individuals individu-als who continue to fill our can bins with aluminum cans. This has been a good year for this project, but it could be better. There are still lots of cans thrown into the dumptsters. Our city officials have taken advantage of some of the hot days we had last week to seal and chip all of the streets south of Center Street. Streets north of Center were done a year or so ago. They surely look nice and we are now ready for that hard winter we are hoping to have with inches and inches of snow wjth foot after foot in the mountains. moun-tains.
