Show Panguitch High Girls Conquer The County Panguitch High fought back from an early Bryce Valley lead to defeat the Mustangs on the Bobcats home floor 49-28 on Wednesday night. Jenna Sawyer went for 20 points, while Britt Nay scored 8 and dished out 8 assists. BV did not go down easy. Jana Foster hit a couple of three's and the Mustangs played hard on defense to take an early 7-2 lead, but the Bobcats used their superior inside strength to win. Foster finished with 8 and Christina Cantu scored 7. On Friday, Escalante led the Bobcats going into the fourth quarter, before the Panguitch girls hit a couple of key shots and extended the lead for a final of 47-38. Jenna Sawyer hit 15 and cousin Shawna Sawyer scored 10, but again, it was the strong team play with several players contributing that put PHS over the top. Seniors Sawyer,- Brittany Nay, Johnnie Barton and Amanda Barney are strongly supported by a fine Freshman class. Laura Richmond scored 14 to lead the Moquis in a valiant effort. Earlier in the week, Panguitch knocked off Parowan 53-47. Jenna Sawyer pumped in a whopping 28, while Nay scored 9 and Barton hit 8. Bryce Valley girls' beat Tintic on Saturday 44-31 in another nice win. The Mustangs drove out to a big half time lead and coasted home. Jenne Comp hit doubles with 11. Several other players scored 6, 7 and 8 points, including Jana Foster, Angie Comp and Christina Cantu. BV lost to a very good Wayne team 66-43. Wayne has an outstanding inside game. Comp hit for 10 and Christina Cantu scored 8. Escalante's girls lost to Valley 44-33, despite 17 huge points from Laura Richmond. The Moquis scored 14 in the final period after only scoring 19 in the previous three. Levi Lefevre scored 15 points and Ty Ramsey 12, but Valley had another big (See SPORTS on page 4A) Sports By Yardley FrornPage 2A game from Owen Hoyt and defeated Bryce Valley 55-39 in boy's play. The Mustangs are having a slow start, but they could put it all together and contend for the region title. Escalante lost to Wayne 76-47. 76-47. Four Badgers went for double dou-ble figures in a balance attack. Devin Shakespear scored 14 for the Moquis. Panguitch lost a couple of heart-breakers at the Kanab Cowboy Classic. The Bobcats led Gunnison by three with 30 seconds to play, before the Bulldogs roared back to win 64-63. 64-63. Casey Christensen bombed in 30 and Jason Dalton 22, but the Bobcats fell a little short. On Saturday night, Panguitch lost in triple overtime 86-83 to South Sevier! Christensen threw one in from half court as time expired to send the game into the second overtime. Gunnison made one at the buzzer to force the first overtime. In a game nobody seemed to want to win, the Bulldogs capitalized on Bobcat mistakes to pull it out in the third OT. Christensen bombed in 31, Dalton 22, Soph Tyler Barney 15 and Soph Rawley Burningham hit 10 to lead the Bobcat brigade. This was a great game for fans, but it makes coaches gray. |
