Show USCALMJTG HUMS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 niarlenehcolor-country.net . -' - Our small community has been in a state of shock these past 10 days following the "unthinkable" the shooting death of our Garfield County Deputy Sheriff, "Dave" Jones. It really hits hard when you lose a friend, neighbor, fellow church member and the only law enforcement officer in a small town. And to something so senseless! And that doesn't even begin to describe what that does to a family. Our sincerest condolences go out to Carolyn and her five children, Brian, Paul (Jenn), Robert, Jacob and Sarah. And, although not many of us know Dave's and Carolyn's extended families, we also extend our deepest sympathy sympa-thy to them. ' Word was received here of the death of Judy Kelly Workman, Lovell, Wyo. Judy had been in the hospital with heart problems but passed away at her home in Lovell. Her daughter Karen, is living in Lovell, another daughter Karol, and a son Kaycee, both live in Kansas. Judy and her husband Don Kelly were the owners of Kelly Construction here during the "Oil Well Days." Kelly's provided a lot of jobs for our men at that time and had many friends here. We send our sincere sin-cere condolences to Judy's fam-ily. fam-ily. MaeVonn Taylor' is home from the hospital. She must be doing better she is wanting to get out and about. That's always a good sign. Klyn and Marlene Haws went to Salina for the weekend. They met Ryan Cottam, Orem, and Elisa Cottam, Cedar City, at Jon and Jillyn Sorensen's house. They all attended the wrestling matches and watched Alan Sorensen win in his division again. They visited with Gene and Renon (Roundy) Reed and their daughters, Dianne Pierce and Joan Nay and families. Dianne also had a son wrestling there. After the wrestling matches match-es they all went to Junction where they met Shondelle Cottam, Cedar City, and watched Escalante and Piute play basketball. The first two games were okay but the varsity game was too rough to be much fun! Some of the Escalante fans who were also at the game (and I hate to do this 'cause I always miss someone) Greg and Beth Christensen, Kay and Jody Brooks, Chrystal Duthie, George and Lisa Nez, Greg and Paula Shakespear, . Ed and Camille Shakespear, Link and Donna Chynoweth, Richard and Jolene Costigan, Kim Reid and her daughters, Tempe, Brittany and Elyse; Dustin Shakespear, Dusty and Cassidy Barnson, Debbie Allen and part of her family-' (with mixed emotions I imagine since they have connections with both teams. But Greg is a coach at EHS now, and son, Lane.' is on the Escalante team). . , And Reed and Analee Spencer Knudsen came from Mayfield to help cheer the Escalante Boys on. Deon Alvey and Marlene Haws went to Tropic last Tuesday where they picked up Clare Ramsay and Gloria Hayden. On to Panguitch where Faye Worthen and Dorothy' Pingree joined them and they all went on to Hurricane for a Five County Meeting with the Council on Aging. ' Brandon Haws drove up from St. George and met them there to visit with his Grandma Haws and Aunt Deon and had lunch with the six of them. ( Editor 's note: We apologize! Missed Marlene's column last week.) |
