Show pmjguitcu fjoiys By Earl Roe 676-2376 It was good to drive into town in a rain storm and see everything every-thing looking so wet. It appears that if the drought is not broken, at least it is badly bent. Anyway, it is good to be home again. The first thing I did was check my Email for any reports of newsworthy events that had occurred while we were away. NOTHING! However, I learned at Lions Club that we were in Cincinnati, Ohio at the same time other Panguitch residents were there. So I hope to get their report to pass on to you. In the meantime, you will get a review of the trip Evalyn and I had. Our destination was . Dayton, Ohio to attend the reunion of the 98th Bomb Group (Korean War) where we also spent a couple of days with our son Russell at Omaha and attended the Winter Quarters LDS Temple with him. We also visited the Nauvoo LDS Temple. In one of the temples I met Escalante born-Ray Barney who said to say "Hi" to the Escalante folks. The Dayton reunion was fun with three of our original 10-man crew in attendance. The highlight of the reunion was the day spent at the United States Air Force Museum (the largest in the U.S. and, possibly, the world). On our way home from Dayton, we detoured through Cincinnati (Fairfield) to attend church with our grandson, Cliff Peterson, (Pete and Beverly's son), who is serving an LDS mission in the area. We not only found Cliff, but also Garrett McCullough (son of Robert and Jill McCullough), who is serving serv-ing a mission in that area. Garrett is Cliff's zone leader. Garrett was really surprised to see us, probably as surprised as Cliff was to find someone from Panguitch in his zone. Garrett was one of the speakers in LDS Sacrament meeting and the musical number was provided by all of the missionaries, singing "Ye Elders of Israel." As soon as the meeting was over, we headed west on our long journey home, covering some 4,000 miles altogether on our trip. During the latter part of last month, Pat and Ileta Dix, accompanied by their daughter and son-in-law Roberta and Rick Irish, spent 17 days on a trip east. They visited the historical his-torical sites at Gettysburg, on to Washington, D.C., where they visited President John F. Kennedy's grave and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and watched the Changing of the Guard ceremony. They also visited vis-ited the Smithsonian Museum before traveling on to Hershey, Penn. to see Chocolate World where the street lights are shaped like candy kisses. Their last major stop was in Pat's home town, Cincinnati, Ohio, where Pat attended a football Panguitch News From Page 3 A game at his old high school. Pat said he was the oldest alumnus present. All in all, they covered 5,500 miles on their vacation. While they were away, their daughter, Melodie and husband, Tom Wood, came down from Roy and completely remodeled their master bedroom. Tom rewired it and completely redid the ceiling, walls and window frames until it looked like it belonged in the House and Gardens magazine. Now I am reminded of some of the driving on our trip, "Big mistake Many make Rely on horn Instead of brake." Burma Shave |
