Show P.WGUI7CU uuvjs By Earl Roe 676-2376 With Spring "just around the comer" (I saw my first robins Monday.), I feel like it is time to once again remind citizens that the Panguitch Lions Club is still in the re-cycling business. The civic-minded club made over $1,000 last year and could probably prob-ably have doubled this if everyone every-one dropped their aluminum cans in a shopping bag and threw them into one of their collection col-lection bins. (I still see lots of them just thrown into the dump-sters.) dump-sters.) There are bins by the dumpsters, the City Office, and the Elementary School. The Lions would also liike to have your scrap aluminum, brass, and copper. (When you re-cycle you are helping the economy, the environment, the city, and the schools.) Our club has 10 school and community organizations and projects to which the Lions contribute con-tribute around $3,000 every year in addition to other community and student needs that occur from time to time. Stan and Anna Pollock felt that it was a real honor to be able to be present at the "Swearing In" ceremony at Cedar City (See PANGUITCH on page 3) I Panguitch News I From Page 2 A when their grandson, Clint Stanley Pollock, became a Cedar City Police Officer and has chosen to follow in his father's footsteps. Also present at the ceremony were Clint's I parents, Clint (the other Clint) and Jolene Pollock with their two daughters, Alana and Alesha; Jolene's parents, Bill and Bonnie Nelson from Cannonville; and our Highway Patrolman, Jared Higgs. ; Officer Pollock graduated j from P.O.S.T. last fall and was one of the top five in his class in I Academics and 1 in ! Marksmanship. (These country, ! boys leam how to shoot. My son j Doug, was also 1 in j Marksmanship in his class.) Clint's parents and grandparents are happy to see him find employment in Cedar City and i close to home, j Vermon and Catherine j Barney are home again after an 11- day excursion that took ! them as far north as Rnseman. Mont. Their initial destination was the 320 Ranch, a guest ranch, where they met with their son and daughter-in-law Craig and Eva Barney; Nate and Annie Hull and children, Tyler, Taylor and baby Eva; and Marshall and Katie Cox and daughter, Kyia. It was a very enjoyable family gathering. After spending several sever-al days at the 320 Ranch (Vermon said this was the way he liked to camp out at his age), they went to Boseman with Craig and Eva where Craig took care of some of Vermon's health problems. On their way home they stopped in Salt Lake City long enough to watch their granddaughter grand-daughter play in a basketball tournament and then on to Richfield to watch a grandson play in two regional games. If conditions permit it, Vermon and Catherine never miss a ball game in which a grandchild is participating. At the regular Lions Club meeting Wednesday night, Lion Allen Henrie presented one of the proposals for the renovation of the Panguitch City Park and the installation of new playground play-ground equipment. Several propoals and bids were submitted submit-ted yet to be decided upon. Plans are to have the project completed by this summer. The Lions Club has pledged support with both funding and labor to help with this project. I received another e-mail from Jud Farmer, a long time subscriber to the Garfield County News, telling me how he enjoys reading about someone some-one he knew "way back when". When he' read the bit about my sister, Ardith, it reminded him of the time he got in trouble in Aunt Von Daly's 2nd grade class over something to do with Ardith. I believe we all reach a stage in life (if we live long enough) when most of our laughs and pleasurable moments come from re-hashing those special events of our earlier days. This is the reason I always try to work a little geneaology into articles about the things some of us are doing today (and the reason for my "Burma Shave" ending.) Most of us enjoy reading, read-ing, seeing, or hearing something some-thing that "jump starts" our memory motor and kicks it into gear. This reminds me that Marilyn Jackson of Escalante sent me the early genealogy of Predencio Zabolla that I wanted so in my spare time I am trying to put together the relationship of Joe Predench and Escalante. There will probably be a lot of "gaps'" that I can't fill unless someone's memory is "jump started" and they recall other things about him and let me know. "Late risers, shave In two minutes flat.
