Show Irs A Huge Problem For Antimony Residents This is to call some much needed attention to the very bad road conditions in Johns Valley. I live in Antimony and work at Ruby's Inn five days a week (as do several other people here). Therefore, I drive this road 10 times a week, late at night on half , my shift. The five miles of un-(See un-(See LETTERS on page 5-A) LETTERS ,From Page 4-A i paved road were at least graveled and better than now. The road was to have been completed this past summer. Commissioner Clare Ramsay told me and several people (in Antimony over the last few months. It wasn't even started un-Hil un-Hil the middle of September. Then "torn up with big machine and left. No one has been there for a month now. It is so rough, muddy and' -completely unacceptable to all of us 'who have to drive this every day. 1 Tuesday, Oct. 31, I left work at (10:30 at night. At 11 p.m. on that ,rough, torn up stretch of road, my ibattery wires were pulled loose and ) was plunged into complete darkless, dark-less, no heat, no cell phone, nothing. noth-ing. Thank goodness I had put a , blanket in my car the day before. I , sat there five hours, huddled in my blanket and was very, very cold! 't Finally, one of my co-workers ,from Antimony, on her way to work at 3; 30, came by and called 'my sons. They got there at 4 and 'rescued their mom! , I had called Mr. Ramsay just a few days before this incident and was told he couldn't do anything ,about it. His comment was "you know how construction companies are." i Well, if he knows how con-. con-. struction companies are, then why were they ajlowed to tear this up in .September and then leave it? Is it going to remain in this condition all winter until next summer? This is just not acceptable! We pay lots of taxes into Gar-, Gar-, field County and have tried to annex into Piute County several times only to be voted down by other Garfield citizens that don't even know where we are except at tax time! Or election time, then we see all these people and hear all these promises and then after election, Antimony doesn't exist again. The road is one of the worst things, but we are also ignored as far as law enforcement and any other services. We deserve and demand de-mand more! Then, the old part of the road has "huge" potholes again that need to be filled again. This is a constant, con-stant, ongoing problem that kills our cars. What can be done about these problems? How many years has the Johns Valley Road been under un-der construction or "bit pieced" for 20 some odd years or more. What a joke! , Because we are silent it gets last money, last attention, last everything. every-thing. This is the worst maintained road for the travel it receives in all of Garfield County. Ramsay told me last week that if he could get a grader in that area, he'd see if they could smooth the road a little. Next' day, after it snowed all day and night, I passed a gradar on my way to work about 1 in the afternoon, attempting to clear snow off the road. He didn't smooth any of the dirt part at all! Where was the real snow plow? We had six inches of snow and the next day still no snow plow. Large rocks had fallen onto the road in Black Canyon some time. A phone call was then placed to Commissioner Louise Liston. She told us that she was under the impression im-pression that the road was completed com-pleted in summer! Lack of communication com-munication on the commissioners part or just indifference? We really deserve and demand ' that our tax dollars be used on our behalf sometimes. We aren't sec- ond class citizens but we are treated 1 like we don't exist until election ' time. Maybe if you commissioners would bring your personal car and j drive this road 10 times a week for even a month, maybe you'dvget a 1 small understanding of this huge problem to us from Antimony. Be sure to drive it late at night five nights a week in the winter, too. Marcia Tobiasson Antimony |
