Show Utah Humanities Council Speaker Comes To Escalante ESCALANTE The Escalante Canyons Group for the Arts and Humanities in co-sponsorship with the Utah Humanities Council will feature speaker Mel Bashore, senior librarian in the LDS Historical Council Speakers Bureau, Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Escalante LDS Church on Center street in Escalante. Bashore will come .to Escalante to give his presentation, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Utah: Laughable Incidents on the Mormon.Trail." Recently, another speaker from the Utah Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, Heather Se-ferovich, Se-ferovich, addressed an audience in Escalante about non-traditional ways of doing personal and family history. She had a wealth of simple, sim-ple, easy-to-apply ideas that may sound trivial to us but can be full of meaning for other generations. These included: jotting down inventories of what's in your wallet at various times. sketching maps of important local places at different stages in your life. starting an envelope each year for ticket stubs, programs, etc. listing vehicles you've owned, pets, hobbies, collectibles, favorite entertainers, etc. listing personal belongings (books, records, mementos) also useful for insurance purposes. tracing personal journeys in life (also vacations) on maps. keeping resumes. recording military service (with photos, if you have them). transferring r home videos onto VHS or DVD's, archiving photos in permanent, safe containers. writing up medical history (also very useful to descendants when the doctor asks if something ran in the family). All of the ideas Seferovich offered of-fered in her presentations could help in starting a record of our lives which will endure and be deeply ap- ' predated by those who come after us. The Escalante Canyons Group is a local, unaffiliated art organiza-(See organiza-(See SPEAKER on page 5-A) SPEAKER From Front Page tion which invites interesting speakers to Escalante and also conducts con-ducts arts workshops for the community. com-munity.
