Care and Share Coordinator for Garfield County Faye Worthen is joined by County Director Councilon Aging Deon Alvey in a ribbon-cutting ribbon-cutting ceremoney at the Open House for the new Care and Share facility in Panguitch. The program is a valuable tool for many county families. Care and Share Program Goes To Old County Jail PANGUITCH Fay Worthen spent the day Saturday in the Old Panguitch Jail, but folks around here have never seen her happier. Worthen was proudly showing off her new Care and Share facility, now located at 55 S. Main (the old jail offices), but with all the bars and most of the locks removed. Care and Share celebrated the move on Saturday, after weeks of painting, sprucing and building new shelves, all with donated man-and-woman hours by caring, loving friends and neighbors. A special open house was well attended with over 50 guests throughout the day. Friends of Care and Share offered their services to escort newly arriving guests on a tour of the facility. The program, sponsored through the Utah Food Bank receives regular donations of excess, damaged, and second hand food items from area groceries and merchants. The pantries or "cells" as they are referred to have never been fuller. Items range from canned fruits and vegetables, soups, pastas, dry goods, toiletries, even specialty items like baby formula, dog food and rock salt. The Utah Food Bank issues poverty income guidelines that must be strictly followed and families fami-lies qualify once per year in October. Octo-ber. For a household of one, income in-come must not exceed $8,240 per year; for two, $11,060; for three, $13,880; a family of four, $16,700; a family of five, $19,520 and a family of six, $22,340. Worthen praised the program for helping numbers of families each month. She mans the center 12 hours per month, assisting families to fill important needs in her three, four-hour shifts three days each month. The remainder of her time is spent sorting, logging and stocking stock-ing shelves. She shared how important im-portant the Care and Share proaram can be especially when families return re-turn to work at seasonal summer jobs in the area and use the goods to supplement otherwise meager incomes. in-comes.
