Show Republican Delegates Name Myron Carter, Dell LeFevre To June 27 Primary Ballot With a remarkable 100 percent turnout of delegates, Myron Carter of Escalante and Dell LeFevre of .Boulder were chosen to be the Republican Candidates for County Commissioner seat C at the Apr.l 1 Republican County Concention in Tropic. Their names will be awaiting a public vote on the Primary Ballot next June 27th. Three commissiner candidates discussed issues critical to Southern Utah and proposals for returning control of public and private property back to local boards. Other Republican candidates, or their representatives, were present to declare a desire to serve in public offices. Representative Tom Hatch led off and was followed by Republican hopefuls and their staffs from Senator Leonard Blackham to the Governor and on to Congressman Cris Cannon and U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch. County GOP Chairman Bill Cox conducted the meeting which began with the stirring and enthusiastic singing of the Star Spangled Banner led by Jeanne Harshman and accompanied by Kay Ripplinger, both of Boulder. Judy P. Henrie of Panguitch, read the Republican Platform, and County GOP Treasurer Lori Talbot gave an accounting of funds. During the evening, Garfield County Republicans received commendation for their efficient adherence to to State Republican Party guidelines and strong support of Utah Party goals and policy. Louise Liston received many tributes throughout the night for her tireless service as a County Commissioner. Chairman Cox presented her with a red, white, and blue corsage as a token of appreciation from everyone in the county. Tom Hatch and many others followed with recollections of her sterling tenure and unselfish dedication to the area.. Bryce Valley High School was alive and colorful as most candidates brought placards, displays of literature, bunting and give-aways. The opening pot-luck dinner was festive with patriotic decorations placed by County Vice-Chairman Vice-Chairman Victory Crawford. LaMar and Ethyl LeFevre of Tropic prepared the main dish and donations of food were made by Welcome Mart, Panguitch; Munson's Grocery, Escalante; B-A Ranch, Boulder; and Doug's Place and Bryce Point Bed and Breakfast of Tropic. The 12 State Delegates who were elected in precinct caucus meetings in March will be joined by 12 additional bonus Garfield delegates at the Utah State (See REPUBLICANS on page 8-A) REPUBLICANS From Front Page Republican Convention in West Valley City on May 6. They will be receiving their packets of information and credentials from party headquarters at the end of the month. Any citizen wishing to discuss candidates or issues is encouraged to call their precinct state delegate ! |
