"Bert" Leach, Panguitch will celebrate his 80th birthday with a family party on Saturday, Sept. 9. He was born Sept. 14, 1920 in Tylorstown, South Wales. He came to the United States when he was 18 months old and his family settled in Alton, Utah, where he grew up. He married Thora Campbell 59 years ago on Mar. 4, 1941 in Alton. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. They have four children RoLayne, Lewis, Glenn and Brent; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He worked for Kaibab Industries as a truck driver and mechanic for 42 years, retiring in 1982. Since retiring, he and Thora have spent their winters in Arizona, dancing, teaching and calling square dances. Bert enjoys raising a garden and making things from wood for all the kids. Although they've slowed down a lot, Bert and Thora still like to travel around the country to square dances. |
