Show EzGQcnDcnimCc Mews I By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Sorry there was no news last week. I have been incapacitated, along with a dozen others who have had surgery or sickness. Hopefully we are all doing better. Every day makes a difference. Bart Carter is walking tall since he had back surgery. Hopefully it is with much less pain than he was experiencing before the surgery. Garneal Smith is home from Arizona where she has been residing with her son Dane and family since she injured her ankle. Dane, Sharon and family brought her home last week. Sharon Dale and Shirley Marsh are home from Cedar City and St. George where Shirley has been going for treatments. No place like home, is there? Grace Barney is home after spending the winter in Cedar City with her son and daughter-in-law , Wade and Shelley Barney live next door to her so they can be of help and son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Lois Barney will be back and forth from Kaysville to help with Grace and Lois' mother Elda Haws. Phyllis Alvey is Elda's main caregiver, so that will give her a break. Patrice Cottam and Klyn Haws went to the hospital with Marlene haws when she had surgery. Jillyn Sorensen and daughters, Salina; Brandon Haws, St. George; Shondelle Cottam; Shana Porter, Cedar City; and Connie and Alfred Jepsen visited her while she was there. Alfred and Connie Jepsen will spend a few weeks in Cedar City while Alfred recovers from the surgery he had last Tuesday. Auggie Bernardo is recovering from surgery. Tina Christensen Pittman is recovering from surgery. Marj Isaacson has had two surgeries since January a hip replacement and surgery on her left shoulder. She is spending some time here with daughter and son-in-law Victory and Richard Crawford. Marilyn Jackson reports that two of her aunts have had hip replacements LoRee Shurtz and Vivian Collard. LoRee and husband Park Shurtz are in Mesa, Ariz., this winter and Vivian and husband Steve are in Quartzite, Ariz. Vivian claims she can dance better now than she can walk. I suspect it would take a lot more than hip surgery to keep Vivian off the dance floor. They had attended an Escalante reunion at the home of Bob and Sandra Porter in Mesa. Bob, I will be expecting an update on that. Maybe some of us would have liked to crash the party ! Doug Mclnelly, Richfield, and Donna Rae Barker, Monroe, brought Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman home and got them settled in before returning to their homes. Glen and Fran Wilson went to Salt Lake City to spend the week with Fran's family. Garl and Patsy Cottam came from Orem to spend a week at their home here. They visited with Dudley and Hazel Spencer and, I presume, the family of Pat's brother Karl Spencer. Theron and Dixie Mitchell spent a few days in the St. George area. They visited with Theron' s brother Garland Mitchell and his wife Ruth Marie. Dan and Lois Spencer went to Mesquite, Nev., for the wedding of their granddaughter Stacey Hughes and Chad Frye. Don and Lillian Coleman went also and Lillian made and decorated the wedding cake. This makes the sixth one she has done for the Spencer family. She does a beautiful job. While in Mesquite, Dan Spencer had the privilege of baptizing his 8-year-old grandson Walter Spencer. Walter is the son of Jim and Allyson Spencer. Betty R. Alvey met Greg, Irene, Kylene and Jeff Tait in Orderville for a visit. They also helped celebrate Rena Tait's 80th birthday. Other family members visited with Rena during the week. Betty R. Alvey has a couple of grandsons in Palmdale, Calif., who are following on their father's footsteps. Carson and Cameron Alvey, sons of Johnny Alvey and Michelle Peterson, have both made a real good showing in basketball this year. Carson, a 7th grader and the youngest player, was recently chosen one of five all stars out of 12 teams. Cameron, who is 14, scored 29 points in one of his last games. Sheree Roundy is also the boys' grandmother. Sam and Mary Blares, Tool, visited in town recently. They divided their time between Norman and Radios Christens and Larry and Ruth Christens. They helped Ruth celebrate her birthday while they were here. Elaine and Nancy Porter spent a few days in California last week. They visited Nancy's uncle's citrus farm and brought enough oranges and grapefruit home to supply the whole Porter family. Que Porter went to Cedar City to have some work done on his eye. He says things look brighter now. Stan and Marlene Stowe and Ann and Val Haws spent a week in Mesa, Ariz., visiting Jeff and Marilee Miller and taking in all the points of interest. They brought DeLane, Leah and Brenda Griffin home. Leone and Shirley Gates came from Tooele to spend a couple of days with their brother and sister-in-law Pratt and Areola Gates. All the good weather we have had this winter and they had to return home in a snow storm. |
