Show tropic nsvjs i , , By Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 vickidiane36hotmail.com After hearing some very negative neg-ative remarks from a few people in our area it was nice to talk with the parents of the young men in our area, who are now actively serving in our defense, it is interesting to know just how proud they are of their boys and how nervous at the same time. Not one of them has expressed a negative thought about why their sons are now serving for our country. Among them are Greg Leech who is on his way to Kuwait riow. Greg is the son of Elaine Haas and grandson of Helma Haas of Tropic. Joey Shakespeare is not far behind and he is the son of Kevin and Jeanie Shakespeare of Tropic. Chris Mitchell is stationed off the Nimitz, and is the son of Mike Mitchell of Henrieville. Heath Piatt is in Japan temporarily tem-porarily visiting with his new baby and will follow his unit to the war zone. Heath is the son of Ken and Artoise Piatt of Henrieville. Jeff Stock is in the Navy. He is the son of Jeff and Jan Stock of Cannonville. We art all so proud of these young men and wish them well and want the parents to know we are behind them a hundred percent. Thank you to all of you for your service to our country. Sharon Kay Pollock, her daughter, Lindsey, and son Lenny's girlfriend Lauren Swan all traveled to Cuernavaca, Mexico to visit with Lenny. He is there attending language school and was happy to have the ladies come for a visit. He took them to Taxco where they visited the silver mines and on to Las Grutas Natiorial Park to see the Parkenside Caves and then to LDS Stake Conference. They later went to Mexico City and attended the LDS Temple there. Lindsey and Lauren did baptisms for the dead and Lenny and Sharon attended a session in the temple. The visit lasted nine days and everyone had a fantastic fantas-tic time. Carl and Mary Miller Boyd went to Los Angeles to meet daughter, Emily, from Iceland where she works. Emily came to Los Angeles to visit with five of her friends from Kentucky. While in the area everyone visited visit-ed the Los Angeles Union Depot. They toured other points of interest in the area. Mary Miller said that they enjoyed spending time with their "wanderlust" "wan-derlust" child (Emily). Welcome to William and Pam Morris who are the new managers man-agers of the Bryce Trails Bed and Breakfast, formerly Fox's Bryce Trails. They moved here from Ridge way, Colo., and say the area is wonderful. The scenery is great and they are thrilled to be here. They are busy doing some redecorating, but say to drop by and say "Hi". Congratulations to Clay and Rebecca Wagstaff for being juried into the LDS Church Museum of History and Art. There were over 700 entries and they both were chosen to represent repre-sent the,171 who were chosen to display their work. Clay's work was reproduced and used in the advertising display at the entrance to the Museum. Rebecca won one of the 20 "Merit" awards for her art work. The theme was "LDS Saints Yesterday and Today and Beliefs in History Life." This is a very special honor and we are i so happy for you. What a fine talent you both have shown. Jeanee Shakespeare reports that Joey is being deployed out on Apr. 10 and the destination is still not known for sure. She and Kevin are doing well and are proud Joey is willing to serve. Elaine Haas tells us that Greg went out on March 28th to Kuwait. He will be serving with the 3rd Infrantry Division and went out straight from Hawaii. She, too, is very proud of her son and his willingness to serve his country. Everyone says that the things that our service people need are small packages of baby wipes, chewing gum, pre-sweetened drink mixes, and any hygiene things in small, flat packages. (In plastic.) Addresses are available from parents, myself, or various post office bulletin boards around. Support ... that is what it is all about! |
