Show ESCAUMTS news By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenelicolor-country.net The town was pretty quiet last weekend and it looked like half the town was in Tropic for the Sophomore Basketball Tournament. It was a great tournament tour-nament and we would like to congratulate our Escalante team for the sportsmanship they exhibited and the example they set for the whole Escalante High School. Our team played the Bryce Valley team for the cham- pionship and our team won for the second time in two years. They made us all proud. Congratulations to Adam Mclnelly who was chosen one of the top 10 players in the tournament tour-nament and also to Chad Cottam who was chosen MVP (most valuable player) of the tournament. tourna-ment. Our girls basketball team are in tournament play this weekend. week-end. We wish them luck and know that they are good examples exam-ples to all of us too. Brent and Patrice Cottam and Melvin and Judy Brooks are spending this week in Hawaii. Also included in the group are Del and Gladys LeFevre, Boulder and Monte and Rita Twitchell, Cannonville. The guys will spend their days attending Soil Conservation meetings while the women spend their money. Sounds like a plan to me! I was unaware of it at the time, but Owen and Pat Gonder went to Hawaii not too long ago with a Farm Bureau group. I don't think anyone else from around here went with them. The senior citizen bus took a group to Panguitch last week to visit the patients in the care center cen-ter there. Included in that group were: Julie Ford, Beth Smith, Max Porter, Garneal Smith, Velma Boulter and Golda Cottam. They also enjoyed- visiting vis-iting the Garfield Memorial health Care Foundation's Thrift Shop and having lunch. Sharian Dutton brought her mom Virginia Sanford home from the Garfield Memorial Hospital. Virginia says she is feeling better, just a little weak yet. Ardis Christensen reports that she and Norm are great grandparents grand-parents again ... twice! Chad and Jamie Lyman are the parents of a new little baby girl, 7 pounds 15 ounces, born on Feb. 4 in American Fork. (They do live here though!) Grandparents are Arthur and Julie Lyman and Quinn and Doneen Griffin. Another set of greats are Robert and Louise Liston. The baby's name will probably be McKenzie (and may be spelled differently). She has two brothers broth-ers waiting for her at home, Clace and Bracken. Norman's and Ardis's grand1 daughter Cristee and Jason Costagano, Vernon, also have a new baby boy, born on Feb. 3, This one weighed in a little early at 5 pounds 2 ounces. His name is Justin McCoy. His maternal grandparents are Sam and Mary Blauser, also of Vernon. Dallen Shakespear got quite a nasty blow to the head and neck when he was knocked to the floor in the Escalante-Valley game here on Wednesday night. We hope you are feeling better, Dallen, we need your scoring ability on the ball floor. |
